Teeth, Bones, and Your Body

When you understand different body parts and body systems, you can have a better idea of what you need to do to stay healthy. Your body is made up of many different parts and systems that all work together to help you function. Your teeth, skin, brain, and bones are just a few of the different separate parts that make up your body. Playing games and taking quizzes can be a fun way to learn about your amazing body.

Teeth
You will get two sets of teeth during your lifetime. The first set of teeth comes in during babyhood. These primary teeth will last for several years before your permanent teeth begin moving in. When the permanent teeth are ready to come in, they push the baby teeth out. The baby teeth will get loose and eventually fall out, making room for the permanent teeth that you will have for the rest of your life. It’s very important to take good care of both primary and permanent teeth to keep them healthy. Brushing after eating and flossing once a day will remove food and bacteria from your mouth. You can help keep your teeth healthy by brushing and flossing, eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, and visiting your dentist regularly.

Body Parts
Your body is an amazing combination of different parts and systems that all work together perfectly. You have extremities like arms and legs that move and help you function. Inside your body, you have organs that have specific jobs. For example, your sensory organs work to take in information. Your eyes see and your ears hear, sending information to your brain for processing. Your internal organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys have specific jobs to keep you alive.

Bones
All of your bones combine to make up your skeleton. Your skeleton has the very important job of supporting your entire body. Without bones, you wouldn’t be able to stand up straight or run and jump. The adult human body has more than 200 bones in it. Every bone has a special job to do to support the body. Some bones help you move, while other bones are in charge of protecting important organs. For example, your skull helps keep your brain safe and your rib cage protects your heart and lungs. The smallest bones in your body are in your ear.

The Brain
The brain is like your body’s computer. The brain takes in and processes information from other organs. After receiving this information, the brain sends commands throughout the rest of your body using the nervous system. Your brain has five main parts: the cerebrum, the cerebellum, the brain stem, the pituitary gland, and the hypothalamus. The cerebrum is the biggest part of the brain, and it has two halves. The cerebrum is in charge of your thoughts, how you reason, your memory, and the voluntary movements of your muscles, such as when you decide to raise your arm. Your cerebellum is smaller than the cerebrum. This part of your brain is in charge of balance and coordination. The other parts of the nervous system include the spinal cord and nerves that travel throughout every part of your body from your teeth to your toes.
